Israel era o artista mais popular no Havai até à sua morte aos 38 anos, em 1997. Ele criou um estilo contemporâneo da música tradicional Havaiana e gravou o clássico Somewhere Over The Rainbow do filme Mágico de OZ, mesclado com outro clássico What A Wonderful World. Esta música tornou-se sucesso mundial e rendeu-lhe vários prêmios. Em 2001 foi lançado o cd Alone In IZ World, um álbum posterior contendo este sucesso e músicas inéditas.
